I have built the log splitter and it works surprisingly better than my friends
store bought one. Most of the parts I had laying around or just made at the

The students in my Advanced Fabrication class will be building the splitter
during 2nd quarter. The only thing different I bought was the splitter kit that
Northern Tool carries, the kit includes a 4"x 24" ram with built in 4 way
splitting wedge and connection plate, cost more but this is the first splitter
we have built so I wanted to keep the fabrication simple.
I have had three other parents stop in and inquire about a log splitter, it
looks like we will be building more and the next ones will have more shop built
parts on it. One thing we do is we get a trailing axles from a auto salvage
yard, it
comes with three rims/tires for $80.00 then my students machine up the stub axle
holders, this keeps our costs down.
